If you believe that the pornography of today is unparalleled in history, just look at the 18th century. In 1740 one of the strangest figures in erotic history was born, the French Marquis de Sade, who was to push new limits for pornography. Whippings, screaming, ropes, masks, humiliations, orgies and sex-demons were part of Marquis de Sade’s life and authorship, and it is no coincidence that Marquis de Sade inspired the term “sadism”.
