The world’s first digital pin-up
girl Lara Croft, created by programmer Toby Guard, from the computer
game Tomb Raider
One of the secrets of Lara Croft’s success
was that boys and men could use their computers to control her
as an action hero while enjoying the sight of her body. In 2001
Lara Croft made history when she made the transition to the silver
screen, played by model and actress Angelina Jolie in the movie
"Lara Croft: Tomb Raider". It was the first time that
a computer game had inspired a movie and not the other way around. |

Just as film from
the 1920s and onward created new erotic dreams and new pin-up
models, the new digital media also created its own stars. Before
the action computer game Tomb Raider came on the market in 1996,
the game’s main character Lara Croft appeared on the front
page of the British financial newspaper The Financial Times, and
a few days later also on that of The Sunday Telegraph. When the
game hit the streets, Lara Croft became a computer hero but also
the world's first digital and non-existent pin-up model.
