"Goodbye
Norma Jean"
By the year after
her breakthrough Marilyn Monroe was already receiving 2000-3000
fan letters per week, and it was obvious to everyone that she
was something special. She had the starring role in the hugely
successful film “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” in 1952
and her private life was also brimming with male admirers. Marilyn
had affairs with film people and writers and, according to rumors,
even the famous Kennedy brothers. Her life seemed more and more
chaotic and unhappy.

On August 4, 1962 she
was found naked and dead in her bed, seemingly due to an overdose.
There are still many conspiracy theories about her death. Elton
John’s song "Candle in the Wind" or "Goodbye
Norma Jean" from 1973 is a tribute to Marilyn Monroe. The
melody was later used at Princess Diana’s funeral in 1997.
